Awww, what a cute story. I can imagine you and your mother's frustrations with a training that can be lengthy and stressful.

I love the part about you falling asleep on the bed and how it panicked everyone. I'm sure that was one reason you went on to do it later as a form of entertainment, lol.

Sorry about the spanking you didn't deserve. I sure she felt bad about it later.

Take care,
Rhonda

Oh dear! I'm sure an outhouse was frightening to a small child. I think my grandma would let me use a small chamber pot.
I think you told us about your disappearing act before. I think some moms are prone to fixate on worse-case-scenarios!

Thank Helen, The chamber pots in our house were for use af night. The always empfed and cleaned in the morning. Yes I'm repeating some things I've written before to adopt to the for this particular book. I think you're the only one likely to remember it.

One can learn a lot about life, my son in law is Indonesian, potty training is more successful there than here, because it's too expensive to buy the right sort of great to keep their children, so the kids learn much more quickly that here. Beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Well, I'm not sure young bodies are capable of controling their bodily functions too early. I've seen parents punish their very young children over something they couldn't control. Really old people lose control as well. No one wants wet pants.

ROFL! Yes, timing comes into play with almost everything we do. But I'd bet that this is one lesson that you learned so well you never made the same mistake twice. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, the tribulations of toileting! These were very amusing tales of this necessary aspect of childhood training. I enjoyed them.

We had a problem with our daughter who tended to be constipated and would hold it in for a long time. Then when she finally went in her diaper, it was a huge ball. She developed mega-colon, and we had to train it back to normal size by giving her mineral oil and Senokot. She hated the Senokot, and the method we devised to give it to her was that she would ride her little car around and around the house, and each time she passed us, we would give her another sip of it until it was all gone.

Thank you Jim. Parents have to invent ways to get medicine down kids. Mom even had to come up with crazy ways to get food down me. I wasn't fond of anything healthy.

My Grandma have a toilet outside and I never wanted to go outside at night so I would be dying to go to the toilet in the morning, despite there being a pot under the bed! Potty training is always distressing and I remember my eldest daughter who often wet herself until she got the hang of it. You made me smile here Beth and I enjoyed your fine historic story, love Dolly x

Thank You Dolly. My grandparents did always have a bot under the bed that someone had to empty the next day. I'm glad we're past those days.

I enjoyed your story about potty training when you were a child. I do not remember my potty training days, but I also do remember that I was a bad wetter and I had a terrible problem with that and my mother got very upset about it. With my children when they got old enough to start potty training, I went out and bought them a pair of pretty little panties that had lace and stuff on them and told themthat when they got there before they could use the potty without messing their pennies, they would get the new ones. It worked like a charm. Patricia .

Because of my illnesses and medicines, I have gaping holes in my memory banks especially when I was young. I don't remember much of my baby and toddler years at all. We learn we grow, and so it goes. Good strong story. I may be scarce for a while I am moving on the 18th. Packing!!!! Karen

The three of them got together and started working on me to move so they could help. I finally gave in. I will be happy.

Yes, timing is everything. Thank you for sharing this. I couldn't help but smile.

"I'll be there in a few minutes," She yelled back. (she)

My Mom was excitable and capable of letting her (mom, because of the 'My')

'Mama come wipe me' one more time (Mama,)

"Mama come here." (Mama,)

Ah, yes, the old sit on the potty for enough time until you go #2. That was a popular myth in my house too.

Beth, you have some of the most interesting family stories of anyone I've ever known. You can even make potty training funny.

Thanks for sharing this s**t with us. (That was meant as a joke - a dirty one.)
