Awww, 10 pound baby born at the arrival of a storm. Now, that's what you call making an entrance!! I'm glad your grandmother was able to be there when you were born. It must have been a great comfort. I can't imagine having a baby at home, but I know that's how they used to do it. In some ways, it was probably better. At least you could be surrounded by your own things.

Thanks for sharing,
Rhonda

Thank you Rhonda, MY daughter-in-law had all three of her babiers at home with a mid-wife and she herself is a nurse. This was fairly recently and she insisted the grandmother be there. Maybe the old way is making a comeback.

You know, now that you mentioned it, I have heard of people doing the mid-wife thing. It's always good to try and recapture the good that's been left behind.

The thing with the ring - I remember someone doing that with me when I had my first. It circled, but I ended up having a girl:-)

I am in pain just reading this. And the fact that people were coming and going in the same space the baby was being born is laughable now, what with the sterile conditions of a hospital delivery room.

The storm coming in at the same time as the birth of the baby is a great parallel for the storyline.

Nicely told, Bath.

Thank you, Pam. According to the the internet if ring the circles you will have girl. Straight back and forth means a boy. I'd agree hospital conditions for having a baby are sterile, but my son and daughter-in-law wanted to have their three babies at home with midwife. Kimberly is a nurse and she wanted all of her family and friends over when she gave. There last child was born 20 yrs. ago.

WOW! You were ten pounds? That's incredible! Your poor mom!
It's great that the doctor was so experienced and knew how to time the deliveries. How fun that all the relatives were right there.

Thank you, Helen. Connie was 10, Carol 9 When my grandchildren were born they were all home births with Midwife, and Kimberly insisted that all of the family and bunch of her friends be there. I only wanted Evan with me.

I'm glad that not so little baby girl is born. I always had large babies and people would say, "You're not supposed to have babies large enough to drive." LOL Love the story.

I'll be back about eight O'clock tonight with the nurse. (o'clock)

act this wasn't going to happen any time soon.Annie brought her some chipped (space after the period)

It's too wet to walk home, and I'm dying to get a little sleep, before I have to get up and milk the cows. (you can omit' home', it's understood.)

Baby Beth welcomed into the world and gets to tell her own story from the very beginning. LOL. And as always, you take me back to similar experiences when my own little ones came along. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric, I was listening from the womb and trying to remember everything that was said, so I could write about it later. The first thing I got when I got out was a spanking, and I realized it was going to a cruel world. LOL

This was a worthy successor to your previous chapters. I hope it opens the eyes to some of the male readers. I know my wife underwent torment in her C-Section. I don't see how anyone could betray a woman after she underwent such pain.

Thank you Jim, I appreciate the review as always. Some women prefer the C-Section although it is painful afterward, at least you are asleep on deadened when they cut you stomach. There is no pain much worse than something much larger than the opening being ripped from your neither regions while you are awake.

My wife suffered so much! For a long time afterward, I had to repeatedly open and clean her wound and pack with gauze.

Good morning, Beth!
What a beautiful memory to share with the reader. Times were so different back then, and things were taken for granted. Now, it's all down to a science--sometimes that's good, and sometimes, maybe not. Arriving with the storm, you punctuated the world with your entrance. Awesome!

Thank you Carol. It is ironic that as child I was carried into the sky in by a tornado but I'm facinated with storms and I actually enjoy them.

Yes, in most cases, that would have been a horrific thing to happen, but for you, it is more of a sign, maybe. Fascinating, to say the least.

This was an interesting continuation of the story, Beth. Your father seems a little out of his element here, but was willing to put a good spin on your grandmother's visit. I loved the oxymoron "little 10 lb. girl." Perhaps they should have named you Stormy since you arrived during a storm. Very nicely written.

So here you are, a slightly different birthdate, and a pretty good weight for a baby, big enough to carry your mother, it seemed to be a very long labour, but the first one quite often is. Thanks for posting Beth. Enjoyable, blessings Roy

Thank you, Roy. I really appreciate the nice review. All my labors were long and my babies were big. My last one weighed 10 lbs. It depends on a womans body type. My daughter-in-law had short labors.

Wow, she should have carried you Beth.

Excellent take of the days I can remember. When people in Arkansas was needing electricity in the Ruel area. It would be hard for people today to understand just how it was on bringing a child into the world with a doctor miles away. Good old midwives. Good one, Beth.

Thank you for the great review and six stars. I was three years old when we finally got electricity. My grandpa who lived in the next house waited sever more years. He didn't really want it.
