A nocturne poem for the picture this club

Midnight Mourning

by June Sargent

A cloak of sadness wraps around my heart

like mists descending from the hills at night.

I do not understand why we're apart.

The happiness that I had hoped would last,

elusive as a butterfly, took flight.

And now my heart and soul yearn for the past.

The nightingale - she tries to ease my pain

with soothing notes until she sees daylight.

But tears just fall like gentle drops of rain.

A Nocturne is a poem written at night that consists of 9 lines with rhyme scheme of abacbcdbd. Generally it expresses a yearning.
